Puppy Potty Training Tips

First, puppies generally can hold their bladders for approximately 1 hour for every month of age. So, if Sadie is 12-weeks old, that means approximately 3-hours between potty times. With that said, you should take your puppy out to a pee spot and/or poop spot regularly.

Here are times to offer them a chance to go potty after:
*Waking up from a nap
*Waking up in the morning
*Being in a crate
*Drinking water
*Eating
*Playing
*Training seasons
*Any excitement: guests, dogs, toys etc...

And Before:
*Going to bed at night

Crate training:
*Hide treats in the crate
*Reward with treats when in crate (not when whining or barking)
*You can feed meals in crate
*You can offer pups kibble in kong and feed in crate

You can also assign a word or phrase to help your pup to learn to pee or poop when you ask them. It will trigger them to try. This helps later when you are pressed for time in the mornings. We’ll learn how to mark the good behavior and reward it when we meet.
